A Brief Introduction
The Royal Tombs at Kasubi are located on 30 hectares of traditionally-farmed agricultural hillside in the modern African nation-state of Uganda. They are the final resting places of the last four Kabakas (kings) of the 700-year old Buganda Kingdom. The Tombs suffered significant damage by fire on March 16th, 2010. The data contained within this project was collected in February 2009, and predates the tragic events of March 2010.
Statement of Data QualityThe Royal Tombs at Kasubi were partially Digitally Preserved in order to demonstrate the benefits of 3D technology on traditional structures as well as to expose the structures to the wider public via online dissemination of the data. The pilot project focused on documenting the main court yard, the facades of its structures, and some of the interior spaces of the main temple. The complete structures were not documented due to limited access to sacred cultural spaces. CyArk will add additional data if future work occurs on site.
