A Brief Introduction
Located near Perugia, Italy, the Hypogeum of the Volumnis is the ancient Etruscan tomb of the Velimna family, and a monument to one of the early Italic civilizations. The underground burial chamber reflects the form of a traditional Etruscan house and offers a rare glimpse into their culture and burial practices. Most of Etruscan material culture was destroyed by the Romans, making this tomb an excellent candidate for digital preservation.
Statement of Data QualityThe data collected for the Hypogeum of the Volumnis was recorded for morphological analyses and a study of Etruscan wooden architecture. Although the focus was the hypogeum itself (subterranean burial chamber), additional data for the entrance, stairway, and small terraced tombs (above the staircase) was also gathered to provide contextual information for data set.
