A Brief Introduction
This former gold rush town attracted miners and the lawless likes of Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok. Because of the canyon location surrounded by pine trees, Deadwood is a natural site for reoccurring wildfires. Because the city is constantly at risk, the Deadwood historic society decided to preserve its historic district through laser scanning documentation.
Statement of Data QualityThe data collected for Deadwood was recorded to Digitally Preserve the historic downtown district’s architecturally significant facades. Approximately 6000 feet of historic street front was Digitally Preserved. The project focused on the historic structural facades and therefore many side walls and interior spaces of the buildings were not digitally captured. However, additional digital records may be added to the Deadwood project if it becomes available.
