A Brief Introduction
Located in the Bavarian state of Germany, the Carmelite Church of Weißenburg is an unusually well-preserved example of the architectural traditions of the Carmelite orders and Baroque fashion. This impressive church features a beautiful, at-risk frescoed ceiling in the Baroque fashion, a Valto-Santo painting, and an elaborate Renaissance organ all embodied in a structure which, following Carmelite traditions, is simple and unrefined. The church has undergone numerous remodels over the course of its history reflecting these changes in architectural style and religious affiliation. Today, the church belongs to the city of Weißenburg and is a cultural center.
Statement of Data QualityThe Carmelite Church of Weißenburg, Germany was digitally preserved to accurately document the historic frescoes and aid restoration work within the church. The exterior and interior’s large, open spaces were fully captured, with special focus and detailed, high resolution scanning work occurring on the ceiling.
